Questions
How is a film turned into colors?
We play the whole film and average the color of its frames, a little at a time, from the first frame to the end of the credits. Laid side by side in order, those colors are the film’s barcode. Settings › Color switches between the average color and the most common one.
Why is a film so dark?
Night scenes, shadows and long fades to black all count. Some films really are that dark. If one looks wrong to you, tell us which, and we’ll check it.
A film I want isn’t there
We add films over time, and new ones reach the app without an update. Send us the ones you’d like to see.
How does Take Five work?
Every day there are five films, the same five for everyone, each with four titles to choose from. A new five starts at midnight where you are. Play all five on the same day to keep your streak going.
How do I play with friends?
In Guess, open Groups and start a group. You’ll get a six-character code to send to friends; they join with it in Guess › Groups › Join with a code. The group’s board shows how everyone did today, this week, their streaks and their best Marathon runs, never which films.
How do I make a wallpaper?
On a film’s page, tap Share and choose Wallpaper, then save the image to your photos. Hold the phone upright for a phone wallpaper, or on its side for a computer’s (16:9).
The daily reminder doesn’t come
Check that notifications are on for Fade to Color in your phone’s settings, then choose a time again in Settings › Guess › Reminder. On a day you’ve already played, there’s no reminder.
Will my saved films move to a new phone?
Not yet. Your saved films, moments and lists are kept on your phone, with no account, so they don’t travel with you. We’re working on it.
How do I delete my data?
Most of it is only on your phone: deleting the app deletes it. To remove your name and scores from groups, use Guess › Groups › Delete my name and scores. Our privacy page has everything else.
